Just as there are
more and more well-educated people today, there are more and more smarter and
slier criminals. A report from FBI said:“ professional thieves have learned that stealing video game consoles is a much more lucrative venture than stealing
ceramic tchotchkes from old people’s mantle.” According to the diagram of this
report we come to a conclusion that the stealing of game consoles has risen almost three times in
three years. It increase from 11,074 to 42,615 between 2007 and 2009.
What makes this a frequent phenomenon? For one reason, game consoles are a large demand, because the platform is the basis of the
console and many people can download free console systems out of official
websites . For example, many people can get them
from Indian or Chinese websites and
some other developing countries. The other reason is that the change in electronic technology causes the device to become smaller and smaller, they have become a bigger target for the theft, it is easy to take, transport, and sell.
For the online game system,
the game accounts are the most important property, they contains personal
information, money, pleasure, and gaming experiences. The hackers have become
more clever than ever before. That could be a big issue in the video game industry
in the future. A game company should not only focus on the game
development but also consider the safety of customers’
property. There is an example about Wanmei company’s game called World2-(神鬼传奇) in 2009. When many people entered into this
game, there emerged an Internet mishap: many people lost their accounts。As most of
these players were new, they did not spend a lot of money on it, so they did
not care. However, a few people who have already spent a lot of money on
playing this game had legal disputes with Wanmei Company. Therefore, Wanmei
lost a lot of money, and it was almost going bankrupt in 2010. From this case,
it shows that we have to learn how to prevent network theft if we are going to
operate a video game company.
